Redmi Note 9T: low cost 5G with a large battery

The Xiaomi Redmi Note 9T is a mobile phone – θήκες κινητών – that competes with Realme and OnePlus in the low budget market. If you are looking for 5G and the best battery life in the price, look no further than the Note 9T. However, if good screen and stunning photos are what you are looking for, there are better options for a little more money.

The Redmi Note 9T is a low cost mobile phone from Xiaomi that came on the market and has 5G and a huge battery. It may be a simple phone, but it meets the basic needs of a user in the right ways and of course a very good price. The Redmi Note 9T is an affordable phone that goes on sale in Europe and packs a capable camera, a nice screen and a huge battery in a lightweight frame. With a price point of 229 €, it competes with devices from Realme, OnePlus and other companies with low budget offers.

Redmi Note 9T Design

Looking at the phone from the outside shows that Redmi does not change anything and does not innovate in terms of design. The face is almost the entire screen, except for a light chin at the bottom. What bothers me about the front is that the screen glass is mounted on a plastic subframe. This reduces the overall appearance of the phone. The frame simply stands out from the unibody polycarbonate frame that makes up the rest of the outer casing. The design of the unibody also means that the sides and back of the phone are made of plastic.

The overall shape of the phone, however, is decent. The sides have a smooth surface and are pleasantly rounded. Xiaomi gave the Redmi Note 9T mostly a flat rear panel, although it narrows a bit as it reaches the side edges. The top and bottom edges of the phone are flat, but not so much. Despite its large size, it is relatively comfortable to put in your pocket.

Redmi Note 9T Display

The screen measures 6.53 inches along the diagonal. It is a Full HD + panel with 19.5: 9 aspect ratio and 60Hz refresh rate. Xiaomi sticks the brightness at 450nits. A drill hole located in the upper left corner gives the position of the selfie camera. As noted, the screen covers the vast majority of the face of the phone except for a slit in the lower end.

Viewing angles could also be slightly better. The screen definitely loses some glare when tilted from side to side. You can see the brightness decrease almost immediately, even at the slightest angle. It’s not terribly interesting, but it is strangely watchable. Overall, the screen is OK for the phone’s price point.

Redmi Note 9T Performance

The Redmi Note 9T has an octa-core MediaTek Dimensity 800U with speeds up to 2.4GHz. This processor is based on a 7nm manufacturing process and is combined with the latest Mali-G57 GPU. However, there are some interesting differences between the two RAM / storage combinations. While both versions include 4 GB of LPDDR4X RAM, the 64 GB model is based on UFS 2.1 storage and the 128 GB model uses UFS 2.2 storage. We have the 128 GB variant in our hands, so we have a little faster storage space.

The Dimensity 800U may be one of MediaTek’s stars, but it is not the top of the class. At Geekbench and 3DMark and we only saw average scores for the device. For example, it did not beat older Redmi phones such as the K20 Pro and Note 8 Pro. It did not even surpass the OnePlus phones of 2019, such as the 7T and 7 Pro. However, in everyday use, the Redmi Note 9T does quite well.

Now if you want to run games on this phone you will not have any particular problems. You may see a slight delay in games with strong graphics or a slight delay when loading some game titles but nothing remarkable.

Redmi Note 9T Camera

Where many phones adopt wide-angle, standard and telephoto lens configuration, low-cost phones continue to confuse the image of macro lenses. The Redmi Note 9T has a 48MP main camera with a 1/2-inch sensor. Xiaomi uses the camera at 12MP at f / 1.79 in a six-element lens. This main shooter combines a 2MP depth sensor for bokeh shots and a 2MP macro camera for very close shots.

Most people need to be able to learn how to use the camera application fairly quickly. It is a fairly standard application. For example, a toolbar aligns the left edge of the screen with fast rotations for flash, HDR, and more. The shutter button is on the right, as is the power dial. There are many functions available from the main screen, such as portrait, video and pro. You can tap an icon to access additional features such as full 48MP resolution, panorama, slow motion, time delay and more. The Redmi Note 9T can record video up to 4K at 30fps.

Redmi Note 9T Battery

Fortunately, Xiaomi has created a winner in terms of battery life. The phone has a 5,000 mAh battery. You can easily save a day and a half on battery life and sometimes more. And I operated it with more than eight hours of screen time.

The Redmi Note 9T also supports fast 18W charging (22.5W charger included in the box). It took about 1 hour and 40 minutes to charge the phone from 0 to 100%. There is no wireless charging, although you should not expect it at this price point yet.
